This article investigates the use of dedicated physiological and acoustic analytical programs in teaching phonetics, defining such terms as computer linguodidactics, electronic linguodidactics and network pedagogy. It describes instrumental methods of phonetic research, such as palatography, electromagnetic articulography (EMA) and intonography. Modern software based on these methods, such as SmartPalate (palatography), VisArtico (EMA) and Speech Analyzer (intonography), allows to apply these methods not only for research but also for educational purposes. The author discusses the advantages of these methods in the development of students’ foreign language phonetic skills, especially working with software based on those methods. In addition, the author offers her subjective opinion on the development of individual multimedia programs that could be used not only on desktop computers, but also on mobile devices such as smartphones, Internet tablets, phones, netbooks, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant), etc. Besides, the benefits of working with modern speech analysis software compared to traditional options are the accessibility of multimedia applications across a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets and laptops. The article also discusses the idea of developing dedicated graphic and text interfaces capable of operating based on the same methods as palatography, EMA and intonography software, as well as exercises to train and develop a variety of students’ phonetic skills. The author believes that such multimedia applications will be able to perform similar tasks in the study of the speech apparatus, help obtain a certain result in pedagogical practice and facilitate the work on building and developing students’ phonetic skills.
