The paper focuses on the textual category of the author representing one of the text’s anthropocenters. We depart from the thesis that author functions as a supercategory defining the categorial profile of a particular genre by virtue of its being intertwined with various other standards of textuality. The relevance of the research is justified by considerable emphasis within modern text linguistics on the study of textual categories as the basis for identification and delineation of various genres and types of discourses. However, in spite of the large-scale research, the hierarchy and nomenclature of textual categories are still not unified. The paper aims at analyzing how the category in focus is construed by the innovative genre of didactic podcast, which has taken shape at the intersection of media discourse, didactic discourse and the scientific discourse. The didactic podcast for the learners of the English language “English Learning for Curious Minds” serves as the empirical basis for the study. The research has revealed five main markers of the category of the author, including both typical and genre-specific ones. To the former we ascribe the means of the author’s selfpositioning and selfidentification with the help of personal and possessive pronouns of first and second person singular. The latter, resulting in a specific profile of the genre under study, include, firstly, minimizing the distance from the addressee through colloquialisms, slang and discourse markers; secondly, expressivity revealing itself in expressive phrases, metaphors, idioms, similes and epithets; thirdly, intensification by means of intensifiers, lexical repetitions and parallel constructions; fourthly, affecting the addressee, shaping them, it being the main goal of didactic discourse, achieved with the help of hyperbole, modal means and hedging.
