Aims & Scope
Language Studies and Modern Humanities (alternative title Issledovaniya yazyka i sovremennoe gumanitarnoe znanie) is a peer-reviewed open access scholarly journal. We focus on interdisciplinary studies into the interface of language, speech and society that are done within the modern humanities framework.
Our journal offers a platform for scholarly discourse of fundamental and practical issues, including contentious questions of the structure of language, consciousness and the world. It also fosters discussions of specific tools and techniques in teaching, translation, interpreting, textbook design and dictionary and corpora compilation.
The conceptual framework of the journal is shaped by the modern cognitive and discourse paradigm and associated terms and research tools. Journal’s authors view language through the lens of cognition, culture and society, which allows them to use language to position an individual within the world around them. We specifically focus on new areas of language research—including the interdisciplinary ones—the challenges of modern intellectual and language environment and the research-informed solutions to those challenges that provide communication tools in different areas of social life, but primarily in language education.
Our journal publishes submissions on a diverse range of topics. Its researchers look into the questions of language change, the connection between language and cognition and its role in cultural education. The journal is at the cutting edge of cognitive and gender linguistics, lexicology and lexicography, translation, interpreting and intercultural communication, theory and classification of text and discourse, including internet discourse and a virtual linguistic personality, interpretation and hermeneutics, linguistic stylistics and poetics, foreign and native language teaching. What sets the journal apart is its strong interdisciplinary nature and its focus on the researcher as the actor in science, both in line with the modern human-centric and holistic approach in humanities.
The readership of the journal is not limited to scholars of philology, but also includes the general public interested in language, text, science and culture.
